Brian Kingshott
President - ORA

I am now well into my second year as ORA President. In recent years presidents have usually served for 3 years and so there is just a year to go, assuming members re-elect me at the AGM. I am very conscious that I am the second former member of staff to serve as President and feel it is very important that we find a former pupil to follow on when the time comes.

I have edited the Newsletter for over ten years and see it as a vital link with former pupils. I am delighted that we are now able to offer an on-line version on this website. Electronic contact is increasingly the way forward, especially for those newly joining directly from Year 13 (Sixth Form in old speak). Please let us have your news and help me make the Newsletter a real channel of communication between Old Royals. It is always pleasing to be able to help in rekindling old friendships.

The Old Royals’ Association has two simple objectives:

• To support the best interests of its members, the Royal Wolverhampton School and the Association itself; and
• To maintain contact with and between ex-scholars of the Royal Wolverhampton School

The Association produces a biannual Newsletter, supports reunions of Old Royals and arranges sporting fixtures against the School. The Association also arranges functions at the School, notably around annual School events, such as Founder’s Day, Remembrance Sunday and the Advent Service of Light.

Additionally, the Association offers financial and other support for particular projects within the School itself, for the benefit of current and future generations of pupils. Clearly, the more paid-up subscribing members the Association has, the more good causes that can be supported, so if you are not currently a member of the Association and would like to become one, I would urge you to download an application form/standing order mandate from this website and return it to me or to our Treasurer, Martin White. Martin has worked hard in recent years to build up our subscriber base resulting in a considerable increase in our income. If you are not yet a subscribing member, I would encourage you to download an application form/standing order mandate from this website and return it to Martin.

I look forward to seeing you at our events in the coming months. In the meantime, if there's anything you'd like to discuss directly, please feel free to contact me here.

Honorary President, Secretary & Newsletter Editor - the Old Royals’ Association

AGM 2010
The AGM will be held in the Victoria Hall on Saturday 12th June at 2pm.
This will be part of the programme for what we are now calling ORA Reunion Day. We hope to be running sporting fixtures including tennis and badminton. If we can find enough players there will also be a cricket match, possibly between an ORA team and a team of RWS friends (which might also include ORA members). Please get in touch if you are interested.

Old Royals’ Newsletter
We publish this twice a year – May and October. It goes out to about 1500 Old Royals. We attach the previous issue to this website as the new one is posted. There is now quite an archive.
